Kids Helping Kids, entering its tenth year, is a completely student-run nonprofit organization based out of San Marcos High School. This will be the fourth straight year Kids Helping Kids has hosted their annual benefit concert at the Granada. The headlining artists in the past have been Mat Kearney, Toad the Wet Sprocket, and Five for Fighting. This year, Grammy-nominated Sara Bareilles will be the main performer, with Tyrone Wells as the opener. The show also features a performance by the winner of Royals Got Talent, a talent show put on by Kids Helping Kids at San Marcos High School.
Having raised over half a million dollars since being founded in 2002, Kids Helping Kids donates all proceeds raised directly to charity, including causes such as the Unity Shoppe, the Ubumwe Center Pre-School in Rwanda, and their San Marcos Fund, which helps pay for students school and test fees. This show, organized and ran completely by the students, brings together the community with the goal of making a difference. John Ondrasik, lead singer of Five for Fighting, called it “a blast to play and an inspiration for all”, and Tyrone Wells was “blown away by the professionalism and enthusiastic, meaningful efforts of the students”.
