About Us / Our Mission

The Downtown Organization of Santa Barbara is dedicated to the promotion and enhancement of the business, cultural, community, and environmental vitality of downtown Santa Barbara for the benefit of its members, Santa Barbara residents, and visitors.

The City of Santa Barbara officially formed the Downtown Organization as a Business Improvement District in 1967 to meet the needs of businesses, professionals, and property owners. Presently, there are over 1,400 members who benefit from the Downtown Organization’s commitment to excellence and its on-going efforts on their behalf.

The Downtown Organization is a membership driven, non-profit organization whose goal is to maintain and enhance the business and cultural activity in the downtown area bounded by Anacapa, Chapala, Micheltorena, and Gutierrez Streets. Helping keep downtown Santa Barbara clean, attractive, safe, and vibrant goes towards supporting this goal.

Many members, Santa Barbara residents, and visitors take part in the activities and events sponsored by the Downtown Organization. These include the  Annual Downtown Holiday Parade, the Downtown Art and Wine Tour, 1st Thursday, the decorative State Street Flag Program, Downtown State Street Safe Trick-or-Treat, and the State of the Art Gallery, a unique collaboration between the City, the County, and the Downtown Organization.

We look forward to your visit to downtown Santa Barbara.
Come experience it!
